Inquiry form shows could not send message

When a guest submits the Have a Question? inquiry form, they see the message "Could not send your message. Please try again."

Why this happens. This specific message means the form reached your site correctly, but your site could not send the notification email. The inquiry form itself is working. The problem is your site’s outbound email (its SMTP or email-sending setup), which is separate from HomeRunner.

What to check.

  1. Open the SMTP or email plugin your site uses to send mail (for example Gravity SMTP, WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP, or Post SMTP) and use its Send a Test Email tool. If the test fails, its log shows the exact reason.
  2. Look for the common causes: the sending (From) address or domain is not verified with your email provider, the provider is in a restricted or sandbox mode, or the SMTP credentials are wrong or expired. If you use Amazon SES, a frequent cause is that the sender identity is not verified in the AWS region your connector is set to. Verify the identity in that region, or point the connector at the region where it is already verified, and make sure the account has production sending access.
  3. If your site is managed by a web developer or agency, this is the setup they control.

Good to know. Submitted inquiries are still recorded under HomeRunner → Entries even when the email fails, so no leads are lost. Once sending is fixed, each entry (and your SMTP plugin’s log) has a Resend action you can use to push the backlog through.
