Google shows a different or outdated icon for your site in search results, even though the favicon in the browser tab looks correct.
Why this happens. The icon Google shows in search results comes from the WordPress Site Icon setting, which can differ from the favicon your theme displays in the browser tab. Google prefers the largest icon a site declares. The Site Icon is usually the largest, so it takes priority even when the browser tab looks correct.
How to fix it.
- In WordPress, go to Settings > General > Site Icon.
- Upload your current brand mark at 512×512 pixels or larger.
- Clear the site cache.
Google refreshes search-result icons on its own schedule, typically within a few days. You can speed this up by requesting indexing of your homepage in Google Search Console.
