# Wrong favicon in Google search results

Google shows a different or outdated icon for your site in search results, even though the favicon in the browser tab looks correct.

**Why this happens.** The icon Google shows in search results comes from the WordPress **Site Icon** setting, which can differ from the favicon your theme displays in the browser tab. Google prefers the largest icon a site declares. The Site Icon is usually the largest, so it takes priority even when the browser tab looks correct.

**How to fix it.**

1. In WordPress, go to **Settings > General > Site Icon**.
2. Upload your current brand mark at 512x512 pixels or larger.
3. Clear the site cache.

Google refreshes search-result icons on its own schedule, typically within a few days. You can speed this up by requesting indexing of your homepage in Google Search Console.

Still stuck? [Contact the HomeRunner team](https://homerunner.io/contact/) with your site address and what you tried, and we take it from there.
