After launch, Google Search Console may show your site as unverified when www now redirects to the non-www domain.
Why this happens. Search Console treats www and non-www as separate properties, so the old www property cannot be re-verified from the new non-www site.
What to do. Add a Domain property, which covers www, non-www, and every page under the domain.
- In Search Console, choose Add property, select the Domain option on the left, and enter the bare domain (example.com, no www).
- Search Console shows a TXT record. Send that record to support so it can be added to the domain’s DNS.
- Once the DNS record is confirmed live, click Verify on the new Domain property.
- After verification, open Sitemaps and submit https://example.com/sitemap_index.xml so the new pages get indexed.
The old www property can stay in place. Its historical data remains viewable there.
