The grey placeholder in each field of the widget Translations panel shows exactly what the widget displays if you leave that field empty.
A note under the field explains where that text comes from, for example: ‘Shipped default: "Desde". Leave blank to use it.’
If the note says the shipped default only applies while auto-detect is off, go to Advanced > Language Settings and set the locale explicitly.
