Upgrading from Template Customizer to Conversion Kit

Moving a site from the standalone Template Customizer plugin to Conversion Kit is automatic and non-destructive, so your custom templates are not lost.

How the migration works. When you activate Conversion Kit on a site that has the standalone Template Customizer installed, Conversion Kit automatically copies all your custom templates to a safe location. It never overwrites templates that are already there, and it never touches or removes your originals. While both plugins are active at the same time, your site continues to use the standalone Template Customizer with no change to the front end. Conversion Kit only takes over after you deactivate the standalone plugin.

Safe upgrade sequence.

  1. Back up your template files and take a database snapshot before starting.
  2. Install and activate Conversion Kit while the standalone Template Customizer is still active. Conversion Kit copies your templates and shows an admin notice with the count of migrated templates.
  3. Verify that the migrated count matches your customized template count. Check the Template Customizer admin page in Conversion Kit to confirm everything is listed.
  4. Deactivate (do not delete) the standalone Template Customizer. Conversion Kit now serves from the migrated copies.
  5. Verify the front end on a customized property page and the booking widget.
  6. If anything looks wrong, reactivate the standalone Template Customizer. This instantly restores the old behavior, because your originals were never changed.
  7. After a day or two of confirmed normal operation, you can delete the standalone plugin.

Check Rate Comparison after cutover. If the site customized the booking-widget or sticky-widget templates and the original source was older, confirm that those templates include the hook calls that the Conversion Kit Rate Comparison feature needs. If those hooks are missing, the Rate Comparison badge does not appear.
