Toolkit: Location Tile Image

Location Tile Image replaces the random stock photo on your explorer’s region tiles with your own site icon or a chosen image, so region browsing looks like your brand instead of a stock photo library.

What it does #

The “Our Regions” tiles in your explorer’s Where/Location step need a small thumbnail for every region. Out of the box, any region without its own curated photo gets a random placeholder pulled from a third-party stock photo service, a different unrelated image on every page view, plus an outside request your site did not ask for.

Location Tile Image replaces that with something that actually belongs to your brand. Turn the module on and, once you have a Site Icon set (or choose your own image), every region tile switches to that same image, including any region that already had a photo of its own set directly on it. Nothing is deleted: each region keeps its own photo underneath, and switching the module back off brings them all straight back.

For example, a site with no favicon set and a dozen unphotographed regions previously showed a dozen different random stock photos on the region picker. After switching this module on, every one of those tiles shows the same small, clean site icon on a white circular background instead.

What guests see:

  • The same tile image across every region in the explorer, instead of a different random photo each visit.
  • No third-party stock photo request loading in the background.
  • One consistent image site-wide rather than a different photo per region. This module does not support choosing a separate image for an individual region.

How to turn it on #

1. Switch on the module #

In the HomeRunner Toolkit Hub, switch on Location Tile Image. If your site already has a Site Icon set under Settings, General, the region tiles start using it immediately. No further setup is required to get off the stock placeholder.

2. Choose a custom image (optional) #

Open the module’s settings and, under Tile Image, choose an image from your media library if you want the tiles to show something other than your Site Icon (SVG, PNG, and ICO files are all accepted, and the module quietly turns on SVG uploads for you the first time it runs so you can use one). Remove the image to fall back to your Site Icon.

3. Set the tile background #

Pick a background color for the tile. Most favicons are transparent, so this is the color that actually shows behind the icon (white is the default, since a dark icon on the plugin’s original grey background was hard to read).

4. Set the corner radius #

Adjust the corner radius to match your site’s style, from a square up to a full circle. The tiles are 40 pixels square, so a radius of 20 or higher already reads as a perfect circle.

5. Save #

Save your settings. The region tiles update the next time the explorer’s Where/Location step loads.

Settings #

SettingWhat it controls
Tile ImageAn optional image from your media library (SVG, PNG, or ICO) to use on every region tile. Leave blank to use your Site Icon automatically. Default: none (falls back to Site Icon).
Tile BackgroundThe color shown behind the image on each tile. Default: white (#ffffff).
Corner RadiusHow rounded the tile corners are, from square to a full circle. Default: 25 pixels, which already renders as a full circle on the 40-pixel tile. Accepts 0 up to 100.

Tips #

  • If you have not chosen a custom image or set a Site Icon, the module tries to find a favicon from your theme automatically, but only if that icon file lives in your media library. If your tiles are still showing the old stock placeholder, the fastest fix is setting a Site Icon under Settings, General.
  • This module puts the same image on every region tile once it has one to use, including regions that already had their own photo. Nothing is deleted, so switching the module off restores each region’s own image immediately.
