Toolkit: Amenity Sections

Amenity Sections groups the amenities on your property pages under headings such as Kitchen, Pool & Recreation or Nearby & Activities, so guests can find what they care about instead of scanning one long list.

What it does #

A flat list of 60 amenities is hard to scan. A guest looking for parking or a pool has to read every tile to find it.

Amenity Sections sorts each amenity under a heading, both in the short list on the property page and inside the Show All window. Each amenity lands in a section by the first rule that applies:

  1. Your choice. A section you pick on the amenity itself always wins.
  2. The category from your PMS. When your feed sends a category (OwnerRez does), the amenity goes under it. A category the module has not seen before becomes a new heading automatically, for example “Kitchen” or “Setting & View”.
  3. The built-in map. Common amenity names from the Guesty and Airbnb vocabulary are already filed for you.
  4. The fallback section. Anything left over goes here.

Sections with nothing in them are not shown. The module reuses your existing amenity tiles, so icons from Amenity Icons and the order from Amenity Order carry over.

Out of the box the sections are:

  • In-Unit Features
  • Pool & Recreation
  • General Building Amenities
  • Nearby & Activities

If the page’s amenity list cannot be grouped safely (for example, fewer than two sections would have anything in them), the page is left exactly as it was.

How to turn it on #

1. Switch on the module #

In the HomeRunner Toolkit Hub, switch on Amenity Sections.

2. Check how your amenities placed #

Open the Amenity Sections panel. The This site today summary shows how many amenities were placed by the PMS category, by hand, by the built-in map and by the fallback, plus the PMS categories your feed has sent so far. If it shows no PMS categories, the built-in map and your own choices do the grouping.

3. Adjust the sections #

Rename, reorder, add or remove sections, set how many amenities show before Show All, and pick the fallback section. Click Save Amenity Sections Settings.

4. Move individual amenities (optional) #

Go to Properties → Amenities and edit an amenity. Under Page section, choose a heading, leave it on Automatic, or choose Hidden to keep it off the property page. The amenity list also has a Page section column so you can review every amenity at a glance.

Settings #

SettingWhat it controls
SectionsThe headings guests see and their order. Each section has a heading and an id. The id is what amenities are filed under (a PMS category written as a slug, or one of the built-in ids: in-unit, recreation, building, nearby). You need to keep at least one section.
Amenities per section before Show AllHow many amenities of each section appear on the page before the Show All button. The default is 3, the maximum is 50, and 0 shows every amenity on the page. Show All always lists everything, grouped.
Fallback sectionWhere an amenity goes when your PMS sends no category, the built-in map does not know it and nobody picked a section for it. The default is In-Unit Features.
Heading overrides by property tagRenames a section heading on properties that carry a chosen property tag, for example “Recreation Deck Amenities” instead of “Pool & Recreation” at one building. The grouping stays the same; only the heading changes.
Page section (on each amenity)Your own choice of heading for one amenity: Automatic, any of your sections, or Hidden. Automatic is the default.

Tips #

  • If a heading shows a name you did not expect, check the PMS categories listed in the panel. A category with no section of its own becomes a heading automatically; add it to Sections to rename or reorder it.
  • If the page looks unchanged, check that at least two sections have amenities in them. One heading over the whole list is not shown.
  • Amenity Sections works with Amenity Order and Amenity Icons. Turn those on too for the best-looking result.
  • Use Hidden for amenities you track in your PMS but do not want guests to see on the page.
  • If your site still runs a custom amenity-sections plugin file from an earlier setup, the panel shows “Standing down” and the module does nothing on the page until that file is removed, so the two never group the same list twice.
