Managing the Amenities Filter in Explorer

Choose exactly which amenities your guests can filter by on your property search, and the order they appear in.

What it does #

When a guest searches your site, they usually care about one or two specific things: a pool, pet friendly, an EV charger. If your search filter lists every amenity your properties happen to carry, the list gets long and the amenities that actually drive bookings get buried. If it lists nothing, guests cannot narrow their search at all.

The Amenities filter in Explorer lets you hand-pick which amenities appear as filter checkboxes and arrange them in the order you want. HomeRunner keeps a master list of every amenity your properties send over from your PMS, and you choose which of those to show your guests.

For example, you might expose “Swimming pool”, “Hot tub”, “Pet friendly”, and “EV charger” as the four filters that matter for your market, and leave the rest off, even though your listings carry dozens of amenities behind the scenes.

What you control:

  • Which amenities appear as filter options, a hand-picked list rather than everything
  • The order they appear in
  • Whether the Amenities filter shows at all

One thing to know up front: out of the box this list is empty. Until you pick some amenities, the Amenities section of your search filter has nothing in it. So if guests are not seeing any amenity options, it usually means none have been selected yet.

How to turn it on #

1. Open your Explorer settings #

In your WordPress admin, go to HomeRunner → Explorer settings, then open the Filters section.

2. Confirm the Amenities filter is enabled #

Find Additional Filter Fields and make sure Amenities is checked. This controls whether the Amenities section appears in your search filter at all. Unchecking it hides the whole amenities filter.

3. Pick the amenities to show #

Find Filter Amenities. This is a searchable list of every amenity your properties currently carry, each with a count of how many properties have it, for example “Air conditioning (48)” or “Swimming pool (43)”. Check the ones you want guests to be able to filter by.

4. Set the order #

Drag your selected amenities into the order you want them to appear in the filter. The order you set here is the order guests see. Save your settings, and your search filter shows exactly the amenities you picked.

Settings #

SettingWhat it controls
Additional Filter FieldsWhich filter sections appear in Explorer search. Include or remove Amenities to show or hide the whole amenities filter.
Filter AmenitiesThe specific amenities guests can filter by, and their order. Pick from your synced amenities and drag to reorder. Empty by default, so nothing shows until you choose.
Primary Features and Amenities to showHow many amenities appear before a “Show more” button in the Explorer filter. Any beyond this number are tucked behind the show-more link. Default is 8.

Tips #

  • If an amenity you want is not in the Filter Amenities list, it is because none of your synced properties carry that amenity yet. That comes from your PMS (Guesty, Hostaway, and so on), so add or correct the amenity on your listings there, let it sync in, and it will appear as an option to pick.
  • The amenity names shown are the names your PMS sends. HomeRunner does not rename them for the filter, so if a label reads oddly, fix the wording in your PMS.
  • This setting controls the search filter only. The amenities listed on an individual property page are separate and always come straight from that property’s own data, so curating the filter does not change any property page.
