This article describes what to do if you have a property that is live in your Property Management System (PMS) but is not ready to be visible on your website (e.g., the listing is incomplete, photos are missing, or it is under maintenance).
There are two distinct ways to handle this within HomeRunner, depending on whether you want the property removed completely or just hidden from search results.
Method 1: Excluding a Property (Prevent Syncing) #
This method prevents the property from syncing to your website entirely. It effectively removes the property from the website database until you remove the tag.
How it Works #
The system looks for specific tags in your PMS to determine which listings to pull. You can use two types of logic:
- Exclude Tag: Syncs all properties except those with this specific tag. (Best if most of your properties are live).
- Include Tag: Syncs only properties with this specific tag. (Best if you have a large inventory but only want a small subset live).
Steps to Exclude a Property #
- Create a Tag: In your PMS, choose a tag name that signifies exclusion (e.g.,
homerunner-excludeorwebsite-exclude). - Apply the Tag: Add this tag to the specific property in your PMS that you want to remove from the website.
- Notify Support: Contact the HomeRunner team and let us know what tag you have chosen.
- Note: We are currently releasing a dashboard that will allow you to map these tags yourself. Until that is live, our team needs to configure the rule on your account backend.
- Resync: On the next scheduled sync, the property will be removed from the website.
To Re-list: Simply remove the tag from the property in your PMS, and it will appear on the website after the next sync.
Method 2: Hiding a Property (Sync but Hide) #
This method allows the property to sync to the website, but it hides it from the user interface.
How it Works #
The property will exist on the website and can be accessed via a direct URL. However, it will be hidden from:
- “All Listings” browsing pages.
- Search filter results.
This is useful if you want to send a specific guest a link to a property but don’t want the general public to find it while browsing.
Steps to Hide a Property #
- Create a Tag: In your PMS, create a tag (e.g.,
homerunner-hide). - Configure in WordPress:
- Log in to your website’s WordPress Admin.
- Navigate to Settings > Sync.
- Click on the Tags tab.
- Enter your chosen tag name (e.g.,
homerunner-hide) in the designated “Hide” field.
- Apply the Tag: Add the tag to the relevant property in your PMS.
Once the next sync completes, the property will remain on the site (accessible via link) but will vanish from search results and listing grids.
