# Abandoned-cart records showing today’s date

Abandoned-cart records in your email marketing platform may show today's date even though the guest browsed weeks ago.

**Why this happens.** Cart events are sent to your marketing platform only once the guest is identifiable by email. When a visitor browses anonymously, their cart records are held until that guest later returns and identifies themselves, for example by filling out a form, clicking a magic link, or using an email-capture tool. At that point, all of their eligible open carts are released to the marketing platform in one batch.

**What the date means.** The date shown in the platform reflects when the record arrived there, not when the guest actually shopped. A cluster of same-day records for one contact typically means a returning guest just became identifiable, and the underlying shopping activity may be much older.
