# Two-factor authentication prompt at login

When you log in to your site, you may be asked to turn on two-factor authentication. This is your site's login security adding a standard second step that protects your admin account beyond a password.

**If you already use an authenticator app.** Nothing changes for you. Your existing setup carries over and your codes keep working.

**If you have not set it up yet.** You see a short prompt the next time you log in. Setup takes about two minutes with any authenticator app. Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, and similar apps all work. There is a grace period before two-factor authentication becomes required, so you do not have to do it mid-task.

**Backup codes.** When you finish setup, you also get a set of one-time backup codes. Save them somewhere safe. They let you log in if you ever lose access to your phone.

**Start from your normal login page.** Always begin from your usual login page, such as your own bookmark. Do not follow a login link sent by email to set this up.
