# Tag Manager mode versus direct GA4 mode

HomeRunner's analytics settings offer two ways to send the purchase event: Tag Manager mode and direct GA4 mode.

**Tag Manager mode.** This is the default. HomeRunner pushes the purchase event to the dataLayer with an ecommerce object. Your GTM container triggers on the custom event name 'purchase' and reads fields such as ecommerce.value and ecommerce.transaction_id.

**Direct GA4 mode.** You enable this mode with the **GA4** setting in **HomeRunner Settings**. HomeRunner sends the event through gtag("event", "purchase", ...) on the page, which broadcasts to every GA4 destination loaded on the page. Your GA4 property receives purchases automatically, even if it is configured inside a GTM container, and no additional ecommerce tags are needed.
