# Trigger Events for GA4: when to turn off

The **Trigger Events for GA4** setting sends events directly to GA4 using gtag instead of pushing them to the dataLayer.

**When to leave it off.** If your GTM container has tags that read ecommerce values from the dataLayer, leave this setting off. When it is on, those GTM tags receive no ecommerce values and the forwarding breaks.
