# Toolkit: Amenity Icons

> Amenity Icons replaces the identical check mark next to every amenity on your property pages with a line icon that matches the amenity, so guests can spot the pool, the Wi-Fi, and the pet policy at a glance.

---

## What it does

A property page lists amenities as a grid of names, and every one of them gets the same check mark. Fifteen identical check marks tell a guest nothing until they read every line, and the list looks the same on every property no matter what it offers.

Amenity Icons reads each amenity's name and swaps the check mark for a matching line icon. Matching goes by the name and copes with the spellings that come through from a PMS:

- "Hot tub", "Jacuzzi", and "Spa" show the bath icon.
- "Wi-Fi", "WiFi", and "Wireless internet" all show the Wi-Fi icon.
- "Pet friendly" and "Dogs allowed" show the paw icon.
- "Pool table" does not get the pool icon; the matching knows the difference.
- "Fishing" or "Museums" match nothing, so they show whatever you chose as the fallback: the plain check mark, or no icon at all.

The set has 23 icons: Wi-Fi, TV, Washer / dryer, Air conditioning, Pool, Ocean / beach, BBQ / fire, Parking, Coffee, Fan, Kitchen, Stove / oven, Refrigerator, Patio / outdoors, Gym, Safety, Family / kids, Workspace, Pets, Bed / linens, Bath, Closet / iron, and Home / entrance.

The icons appear on the property page only: in the short amenities list on the page (the first nine amenities) and in the full list inside the Show All window. Property cards, search results, and the explorer are not changed.

Every amenity's edit screen gets a **Line icon** choice, and the amenities list gets a **Line icon** column so you can scan the whole set at once. Pin any amenity to a specific icon, keep its check mark, or hide the icon for that one amenity. A pinned choice always wins over the automatic match.

The module needs one small edit to your property page template before any icon appears. The settings panel walks you through that edit in five steps and shows a live status line that tells you whether the edit is done, half done, or still missing, so you never have to guess why a page still shows check marks.

## How to turn it on

### 1. Switch on the module

In the **HomeRunner Toolkit Hub**, switch on **Amenity Icons**, then open its settings panel.

The top of the panel, under **Template hook (one-time setup)**, shows a status pill (**Hook active** or **Hook not active**) with a line of text that says exactly where you are. On a site that has never set this up it reads "Not set up yet: this site has no custom copy of property/amenities.php (start at step 1)." Below the status are the five steps and the line you will paste. The steps in this article are the same ones.

### 2. Make the one-time template edit

The standard property page template draws its check mark directly and gives the module nothing to plug into, so Amenity Icons needs a small edit to that template. You make it once, in your site's own customized copy of the template, through Conversion Kit's [Template Customizer](/docs/ckit-template-customizer/). The customized copy survives HomeRunner and Conversion Kit updates.

Conversion Kit has to be active for this step. If it is not, the status line reads "Conversion Kit is not active. The hook is added through its Templates screen, so install and activate Conversion Kit first." and the panel's links to the Templates screen turn into plain text.

1. In the panel, click **Open Conversion Kit Templates** (step 1 also links there). You land on **HomeRunner**, **Conversion Kit**, **Templates**. Open the **Property Display** tab.
2. Find `property/amenities.php`. If its status reads **Default**, click **Sync & Customize** to create your site's own copy. If it already reads **Customized**, go on.
3. Click **Edit** on that row. In the editor, search for `icon: check`. There are two matches: one in the amenity list on the page, one in the Show All window.
4. Replace each of those two whole lines with the line from the panel, then click **Save Changes**. The panel's **Copy the line** button puts it on your clipboard; if your browser will not allow that, the button selects the line for you and says "Select the line and copy it by hand".
5. Open any property page: the check marks are now icons. Back in the panel, click **Check again** to confirm the status reads **Hook active**.

The line to find (it appears twice):

```
<span class="hk-width-auto" hk-icon="icon: check"></span>
```

The line to put in its place, both times:

```
<?php echo apply_filters( 'homerunner_amenity_icon', '<span class="hk-width-auto" hk-icon="icon: check"></span>', $amenity_term ); ?>
```

The status line updates every time the panel loads (**Check again** simply reloads it) by reading your customized template. It only reads; the panel never edits the template for you. What each reading means:

- "Not set up yet: this site has no custom copy of property/amenities.php (start at step 1)": no customized copy exists yet.
- "Custom template found, hook not added yet: 2 check-mark lines to replace (start at step 3)": the copy exists, and neither line has been replaced.
- "Half done: the hook is in 1 place, 1 check-mark line still needs replacing (step 4)": one line is done. The one in the Show All window is the usual miss.
- "Hook active: the property template calls this module in 2 places.": the edit is complete and icons show on property pages.

Until this edit is in place, property pages keep showing the check marks exactly as before, even with the module switched on. If editing template code is not your comfort zone, hand this step to a developer with a link to this article. It is two lines.

### 3. Choose the fallback, color, and size

Back in the Amenity Icons panel, choose what to show when an amenity name matches no icon, set a color if you want the icons to differ from your amenity text, adjust the size, and click **Save Amenity Icons Settings**.

### 4. Fine-tune individual amenities (optional)

The panel lists the full icon set under **Icon set**, with an **Open amenities** button that takes you to **Properties**, then **Amenities**. The **Line icon** column there shows what each amenity resolved to (a dash means no icon). Edit any amenity you want to change and pick from its **Line icon** list.

## Settings

| Setting | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| **Amenity Icons** toggle (Toolkit Hub) | Turns the module on for this site. Off by default. |
| **Template hook (one-time setup)** | Not a saved setting: a live status (**Hook active** or **Hook not active**, with a sentence saying which step you are on), the five setup steps, the line to paste with a **Copy the line** button, and **Check again** to re-read your template. |
| **When no icon matches** | What an amenity shows when its name matches nothing in the icon set: **Show the check mark** (default) or **Show no icon**. |
| **Icon color** | A hex color such as #3d5166 for every icon. Leave it blank (the default) and the icons take the site brand ink from Toolkit Settings, or the same color as the amenity text when no palette is set (see [Brand Palette](https://homerunner.io/docs/toolkit-brand-palette/)). |
| **Icon size (px)** | Icon width and height on the property page, from 14 to 40. Default 22. |
| **Line icon** (on each amenity's edit screen) | Per-amenity choice: **Auto** (default) matches the name, or pin one of the 23 icons, the **Check mark**, or **No icon**. A pinned choice overrides both the automatic match and the fallback. Auto tells you what it currently matches, for example "Auto (matches: Pool)", or "Auto (no match, uses the fallback)". |

## Tips

- If property pages still show check marks, read the status line in the panel first. **Hook not active** tells you which step is left: no customized copy yet (step 1), copy made but no line replaced (step 3), or one line still to replace (step 4). If it reads **Hook active** and the module is switched on, look at the amenity's **Line icon** column under **Properties**, then **Amenities**: a check mark there means the name matched nothing, so pin an icon on its edit screen.
- Pin rather than rename. "Climate control" matches nothing, while "Air conditioning" does. Pinning the Air conditioning icon on the amenity's edit screen fixes the icon without changing the name your guests read.
- Amenity Icons and [Toolkit: Amenity Order](/docs/toolkit-amenity-order/) work well together: one sets which amenities lead the list, the other makes each one recognizable.
- A HomeRunner update never overwrites a customized template, so your two lines survive updates. On the Templates screen a customized row shows **Edit** and **Delete**. Do not click **Delete** on that row: it puts the stock template back and the check marks return until you redo the edit. See [Conversion Kit: Template Customizer](/docs/ckit-template-customizer/) for backups and restores.
- Amenity Icons changes the property page only. To bring the search bar and property cards in line with your brand, use [Toolkit: Skin](/docs/toolkit-skin/); the two do not overlap.
- For the full list of Toolkit features, see the [Toolkit Overview](/docs/toolkit-overview/).
