# Search bar Where placeholder is cut off

If the placeholder text in the **WHERE** field of your search bar is cut off on desktop, you can change it. The placeholder text is fully customizable, and a shorter prompt (such as "Where to?" or a branded prompt like "Explore Charleston") fits at every screen size.

**Change it for the whole site.**

1. In WordPress admin, go to **HomeRunner Toolkit → Search Bar Pro**.
2. Edit the **Default placeholder** field ("Shown in the WHERE field when no value is entered").
3. Save.

This applies to every search bar on your site.

**Change it for one search bar.** To override a single search bar instance, add the placeholder attribute to its shortcode, for example [homerunner_searchbar_pro placeholder="Where to?"]. The shortcode attribute takes priority over the site-wide setting.

**Choosing a length.** Short prompts of roughly 10 to 12 characters or fewer display without truncation, even in the widest bar configurations.

Still stuck? [Contact the HomeRunner team](https://homerunner.io/contact/) with your site address and what you tried, and we take it from there.
