# Rental agreement on the checkout page

The rental agreement your guests see at checkout comes from a site-wide default setting in WordPress, which individual properties can override.

**Setting the site-wide agreement.**

1. In WordPress, go to **HomeRunner > Settings** and open the **Reservations** section (on some sites this tab is labelled **Checkout**).
2. Paste your full agreement text or HTML into the **Default Rental Agreement** field.
3. Save.

The checkout page renders this agreement in a scrollable box above the acceptance checkbox for every property that does not have its own agreement set, so the terms are always displayed.

**Formatting.** Basic HTML formatting such as headings, bold, paragraphs, and bullet lists is supported and renders correctly in the agreement box. Use h2 or lower headings inside the agreement text, never h1. The checkout page already has its own H1, and duplicate H1s hurt accessibility and SEO.

**Different terms for one property.** Fill in the per-property **Rental Agreement** field on that listing. It overrides the site-wide default for that property.

**Required label.** The agreement only appears at checkout when the **Rental Agreement Acceptance Label** setting, in the same section, is filled in. This label controls the wording next to the acceptance checkbox.

**House rules.** A separate setting, **Hide property rules when rental agreement is shown**, controls whether the property's house rules also appear alongside the agreement.

The checkout page itself only contains the [homerunner-checkout] shortcode, so there is nothing to edit on the page directly.
