# Checkout Guest Step without the Conversion Kit

On a site without the Conversion Kit active, the **Checkout Guest Step** module still shows guests the extra step, but nothing is recorded. No abandoned-cart events or recovery emails are produced.

**Why this happens.** The **Checkout Guest Step** module only changes the checkout flow so guests enter their details before payment. The capture itself is handled by the Conversion Kit's checkout-capture endpoint.

**What you can do.** To capture abandoned-cart data on a site:

1. Install and activate the Conversion Kit.
2. Enable the **Cart Abandonment** tool and make sure the site has a valid license.
3. Keep the **Checkout Guest Step** module on.

On any site that will not run the Conversion Kit, switch the **Checkout Guest Step** module off so your guests are not shown an extra step that serves no purpose.
