# Google preferred source banner and search visibility

An **Add as a preferred source on Google** banner does not help your vacation rental website with search rankings or visibility.

**Why this happens.** Google's Preferred Sources is a news feature. A signed-in Google user picks the news publishers they want to see more of in the Top Stories carousel. Vacation rental and hospitality sites do not appear in Top Stories, so a guest who clicks the banner changes nothing about how your site shows up in search.

The banner also works against your booking site. Its fixed bottom bar covers part of the screen on phones, competes with your booking buttons, and sends guests off your site to a Google settings page.

**What you can do.** Remove the plugin:

1. Go to **Plugins**.
2. Deactivate **Add as Preferred Source on Google**.
3. Delete **Add as Preferred Source on Google**.

Still stuck? [Contact the HomeRunner team](https://homerunner.io/contact/) with your site address and what you tried, and we take it from there.
