# Conversion Kit: Activity Counter

> Adds gentle social proof to your property pages, showing how many people viewed a home in the past 24 hours. For operators who want to nudge undecided guests toward booking.

## What it does

Activity Counter displays a small activity line on your property pages showing how many people have viewed the home in the past 24 hours. Seeing that others are interested creates a sense of demand and helps a guest who is on the fence decide to book before someone else does.

The counter uses a hybrid approach. It tracks real visits to each property, and it blends in a steady artificial baseline so the numbers stay believable and consistent even on quieter listings or brand-new pages. The result is social proof that never looks empty or implausible.

- Shows views in the past 24 hours
- Numbers refresh periodically while the guest is on the page
- Real tracking plus a baseline so the display is always sensible
- Automatic placement shows the counter above your booking component on desktop screens (960 pixels and wider) and hides it on phones and tablets
- Optionally shows "Only N dates left this month" when a property's calendar is genuinely running low

That last line is a separate, opt-in scarcity signal from the view counts above it. It is counted directly from the booking component's real availability calendar, in the property's own timezone, and only appears when the actual number of bookable dates left in the current month is at or below a threshold you set. It never shows an estimate or a made-up number, and it stays hidden the rest of the time.

## How to turn it on

### 1. Open the settings

Go to **HomeRunner Conversion Kit** in your WordPress admin and open the **Real-Time Activity Counter** tab.

### 2. Enable the counter

Switch it on. It will begin tracking views and displaying activity on your property pages.

### 3. Adjust the baseline if needed

Tune the minimum threshold and the artificial baseline so the numbers feel right for the size and traffic of your portfolio.

## Settings

| Setting | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Enabled | Turns the activity counter on or off. |
| Show 24-Hour View Count | Display the "viewed in the past 24 hours" line. |
| Minimum Threshold (24h) | The lowest 24-hour view number that will display. Default 3, so a quiet page never shows an embarrassingly small count. |
| Enable artificial baseline | Blends a steady baseline into the real tracked counts so the display stays consistent even on quiet or brand-new pages. |
| Intensity Level | How much the baseline shows through: low, medium, or high. Default medium. |
| 24h baseline range | The range the baseline is drawn from. Intensity Level scales the top of it: low uses 60% of the spread, medium uses all of it, and high stretches it to 140%, so at high the baseline can go above your maximum. Default 5 to 25. |
| Update interval | How often the counter refreshes while a guest is on the page. Default 30 seconds. |
| Show Dates-Left Scarcity | Shows "Only N dates left this month" when the property's real availability calendar is running out. Off by default. |
| Dates-Left Threshold | Show the dates-left line only when this many or fewer bookable dates remain in the current month. Default 7 (range 1 to 28). |

The tab also lists Show Live Viewers, Minimum Threshold (Live), and Live Baseline Range. Guests see only the 24-hour line and the dates-left line, so those three settings do not change what appears on your pages.

## Tips

- Set the minimum threshold to a number that feels natural for your market. Too high reads as fake; too low undercuts the social proof.
- You can place the counter manually anywhere on a property page with the `[activity_counter]` shortcode, if you do not want to rely on its automatic placement. The shortcode version is the opposite of automatic placement: it appears on mobile screen widths only, so use it to give mobile guests the counter.
- Activity Counter pairs well with [Review Insights](/docs/ckit-review-insights/) and [Rate Comparison](/docs/ckit-rate-comparison/) to stack demand, trust, and savings signals near the booking decision.
